Now your membership gets you more than books...

If you're a member of Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch libraries - you can access to Lynda.com for FREE

I have yet to geek out fully with the unlimited access to video courses and tutorials from industry experts. But after speaking to a number of people around Auckland it seems not many people are aware of this access.

I found this resource invaluable while doing my postgrad, its really easy to navigate and skip to sections in the tut you want to know about. Plus you don't have to suffer through the Youtube tutorial waffle - they get straight to the point and are industry experts so you know its quality.

Who is Lynda?

Lynda.com was founded in 1995 by Lynda Weinman, as online support for her books and classes in special effects animation and multimedia from the digital arts school she started with her husband, artist Bruce Heavin.

In 2002, they began offering courses online. By 2004, there were 100 courses, and in 2008, the company began producing and publishing documentaries on creative leaders, artists, and entrepreneurs.

Since the beginning, Lynda.com has been focused on tech content, offering how-to videos on some of the most popular apps from Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, and Microsoft — on everything from web design to learning to use Excel (I still need help with that).

Lynda is an inspiring start-up story, with LinkedIn Corp. buying lynda.com in 2015 in a deal valued at $1.5 billion.

Making it easy for you (if you live in Auckland), here is the direct link to signing in. All you need is your library card and online pin: Auckland Library Lynda.com Login. Now go forth and learn little geeks!

The FOMO Files

By Tansy Hayden 27 Sep, 2017

We worked closely with the communications team at Biomatters to create a video that would encapsulate the complex work they do, and how their Geneious software delivers value to their customers.  Because of the nature of the work they do and the different industries they engage with, we used a variety of media to tell their story.

A few months ago I met Michael & Denis, two guys who decided to change their lives. As I was in the same boat, having left my job to start a content agency. I wanted to explore their journey, what motivated them and what were the challenges of starting a business.

There are thousands of Kiwis starting and operating small businesses, in fact, 26% of NZ GDP is estimated to be produced by enterprises with fewer that 20 employees*.

Most of the time, we only hear the high profile stories. So I'm making it FOMO's mission to uncover some of these stories through, The FOMO Founder Files (perhaps a tad too much alliteration in that title:).
